With great sadness we have received the news of the death of Edwin Till on 22-11-2015.
Over the years, Edwin has been a very valued and respected member of the IDDRG community. His first contribution to an IDDRG event was already in 1996, where he was co-author of a paper on the “Bake Hardening Effect in Components”. He gave his first presentation, called “Process and Material Effects with Respect to Springback”, on the IDDRG 2001 in Espoo, Finland. After that he has contributed to over 10 other papers and attended almost all of the IDDRG conferences.
On 22 November 2006 in Gyor Hungary, he was welcomed as a new Vice President of the IDDRG executive committee, representing Austria. In his opening speech, he stated that “the IDDRG in future should be a resource of academic people and knowledge for the industry and that he can bring in some new ideas on this.” This is what he actively did as an executive committee member bridging both academic and industrial sheet metal research. He helped initiating the IDDRG 2010 in Graz Austria and was a member of the scientific organising committee for this conference.
He actively initiated the presence of the IDDRG on the World Wide Web by having various inputs on the IDDRG and sheet metal forming items on Wikipedia.
He was the initiator for the IDDRG 2016 conference in Linz, Austria and started already preparations for this conference in 2014. It is a great pity, he can not participate in this event and we will all definitely miss him.
We remember him as a very gentle person, with absolutely no intentions to push himself to the forefront. He was very knowledgeable in sheet metal forming science, was always very constructive and had very good ideas for new initiatives.
Our thoughts are with his wife, children, family and close colleagues and wish them all the best in these difficult times.
Nico Langerak, President of the International Deep Drawing Research Group
